Swanage Railway Roads to Rail Steam Rally
28 – 30 June 2024
Norden, Corfe Castle
Step back in time for a weekend of steam-powered demonstrations and vintage fairground fun. Working traction engines, road rollers, showman’s engines, Land Rovers, lorries, classic cars, stationary engines and much more – bringing the Isle of Purbeck to life with recreations of a bygone age.
Located near Corfe Castle, next to Norden train station, you can experience road steam and rail steam together for our popular annual event in the Isle of Purbeck with rides and stalls suitable for all ages.
Enjoy delicious local food in the showground before visiting the beer tent to sample some popular ales and ciders.
Steam-hauled passenger trains will be operating throughout the weekend and late into the evening. In addition we will be running our mainline connection allowing you to travel directly from Wareham and beyond.
Bring the whole family for a super steam-filled day out!

Countdown to Roads to Rail Steam Rally 2024
The Swanage Railway Roads to Rail Steam Rally is being held at Norden.
The simplest and most stress-free way of getting to the Rally is take the train – either our wonderful steam service from Swanage or our heritage DMU service from Wareham station where you can arrive from anywhere on the mainline network. Timetables can be found on our main site.
When coming from Wareham take the first exit at the roundabout on the A351 about a quarter of a mile before Corfe Castle. If coming from the Sandbanks Ferry turn right at the T-junction when arriving in Corfe, continue up the hill and take the 2nd exit at the next roundabout.
Our site has free event parking accessible after the level crossing.
Norden station is served by bus numbers 30 & 35 with the number 40 stopping on the main road on by the entrance to Norden Farm campsite.

One of the highlights of Roads to Rail is the chance to visit the footplate of one our home fleet steam locos!
Kept in light steam and berthed next to the showground, our team of volunteers will show you round the controls and even let you blow the whistle if you’re lucky!
